Some animals may look strange, or even ugly. But if you look past the slime and scales and legs you’ll find the beauty. All creatures great and small are unique, just like you and me, and each deserves to live – despite how they look. Though insects generally top the charts of animals we hate the most, there are plenty of mammals which we can’t stand either. Some animals we hate because they invade our spaces and damage our property. Some we hate because they’re predatory which makes us feel threatened. And some we hate because of their transmission of disease.

HYENA

With long, dark muzzles, bristly black tails, and ears like a cross between a teddy bear’s and an elf’s, hyenas could be mistaken for an exotic breed of dog but actually, they are more related to cats. They are strange-looking half dog half cat creatures.

COYOTE

The howl of the coyote is America’s “original national anthem and a totemic animal in Native American mythology. The coyote has lived in North America for more than a million years. But since the early 19th-century, they have been subject to a war of extermination by ranchers and government agencies. Even today, some 500,000 coyotes are killed each year.

TICKS, MOSQUITOES

Beginning their lives as wriggling, aquatic larvae, they breed exponentially in even the smallest and filthiest bodies of water, surviving off bacteria alone until ready to take wing. Insects like ticks and mosquitoes can really get under your skin, and with good reason. These biting insects can carry diseases. While some precautions are necessary to help avoid tick and mosquito bites, it’s important to acknowledge that they also play a helpful role in our ecosystem.

RATS Rats are one of the most hated animals EVER. Many people dislike their tails, and can’t stand the sight of them. The fear is particularly founded in history, and the association with disease and generally are just seen as filthy animals. .Rats are rodents that do actually serve a purpose in the ecosystem.

COCKROACH At over a million years old, they have learned how to survive through the generations. Cockroaches have many varieties and each looks different. Roaches can survive for a month without water and months without food! There are one of the most interesting creatures.

WASPS

Picture it….we’ve all been there….and many times no doubt. You’re ready to chill, got your food and juice laid out and you’re damn hungry. Before you know it you’re being ‘attacked’ by a wasp – it’s buzzing around your head baring its stinger – little ninjas right? So you freak out, everyone else freaks out, you jump, you scream, hell you even dance.

SPIDERS

Spiders…. Probably the most common phobia. These guys have the ability to make most people screech and howl in fear. To avoid a room for weeks until that damn spid has left the building! Unfortunately, a lot of people mistakenly think that all spiders are poisonous. Most spiders aren’t. They’re just bug-eating creatures.

RACOON

Raccoons have earned the nickname “trash pandas” because they like getting into garbage cans, causing headaches for homeowners in suburban and urban areas. Raccoons are also disliked by farmers, both for feeding on chickens or ducks and their eggs and for damaging corn plants. SNAKES Snakes are one of the most feared animals in the world, Some people will scream and run if they see a snake. Others will just shrug and move on. They are very popular in the exotic pet department, unfortunately. Snakes again like most of the animals on the list have a bad reputation in myths. The snake’s digestion play s a big part in our fear.

BATS

Many people are terrified of bats. They are terrified by its screech and freaked out by its appearance. Many scary movies feature bats, and you can find faux bats in almost every haunted house. Their scariness is reinforced at Halloween when everything that ever scared us as children: ghosts, goblins, zombies, witches, vampires…and bats.

Just because we don’t understand or we fear nature, it doesn’t mean we should hate, dismiss or kill. So perhaps before you decide to hate on animals – don’t. STOP and think about them as wild animals, and what their purpose might be. That they haven’t actually done anything wrong – We just need to learn. The best way to overcome any fear or phobia is to learn about the object of fear. Start spreading good information – no fear or hate. Just educate.
